9/25/12 ( How much is too much to blog about?)

Okay so this post is solely my personal thoughts, I would love to read some of your thoughts yet just please respect mine, okay?

Lately I ve seen some bloggers that have chosen to blog about some really personal things .  Now there is a difference to me about blogging on your personal business. For instance, there is blogging about a personal experience to help others ( Domestic violence, cancer) then there is blogging about personal things
( troubled relationship) . I dont know about you but to me personally I am a private person, I know & understand that not everyone thinks or feels the same way.

Ive come across some blogs that have divulged some pretty personal things. Im like "why?, keep that to yourself"  Like one blogger stated they are taking break because the relationship they are in is falling apart. Ive read beauty blogs that said " sorry Im not blogging due to a breakup", then go on to tell the story of a whole relationship that has nothing to do with beauty. I felt like we don't need to know that, even as loyal readers. I then thought about the other party in the relationship & how they felt about a few hundred people knowing thier personal business or should I say the whole world? After all its the WEB.  Think about it.

WE dont know who comes & read our blogs, trust me I know. I have been blogging on this blog for about 2 1/2 years , when this blog was another name I wrote about my Domestic Violence storey & then a few days later my ex ( the one who was the abuser) contacted me on Twitter stating he read the post. Nothing bad came of it but I had no idea he read it.

I dont just think as a blogger you should air ALL of your business on your blog. there are some cases where its cool & it can help, but your taking a break from blogging ok cool, we don't NEED to know why, yes we would like to know but its not life or death. If its personal keep it to yourself.

I have a lot of things going on but I dont & wont blog about it. Why? as much as I love you all I value my private life. If I think it will help then I will blog. I have actually un followed some blogs because I felt that they blogged a little TMI. But this is just me.  But how much is too much to blog about? What are your limits?

What do you think?

  1. I'm more of a "to each their own" kinda person. If I'm not feeling a particular post on a person's blog - I'll skip it. If they continually post things I don't care to read - I'll unfollow but they're still welcome to blog about those things. Each blogger has to set their own limits within their comfort level.

    1. I agree with that view point. I dont just unfollow any blog that blogs about personal stuff its more of blogs that continually post certain things.

  2. I hear ya. I'm so paranoid as it is about who reads my blog, so I'm always keeping that in mind when writing something. If I do write about anything more personal than what I did that day, I try to make sure there's no specific people mentioned and that its generally about how I feel and doesn't involve anyone else. But yea...I've read blogs where people are talking about dates they just went on and what they think of certain people in their lives, and I'm always wondering what if that person read that!

  3. I think each blogger decides what is ok or not to blog about. I've written some personal rant blog posts lately, that I later deleted, not because they were too personal, but because I didn't want my blog to sound all whining and negative. I just needed to get that out of my head somehow. However, if I do post personal stuff I do my best to not mention names or places.
I don't mind that people post personal things. I mean.. it's their blog. If a specific post disturbs me I skip that post. No reason to unfollow unless they just continue to write about things that bother or don't interest me.

  4. I think it's okay to post some day to day life posts sometimes, I'm not really one who enjoys posting things relating to beauty & fashion, I gave that up a long time ago. I prefer to post things about my life, and maybe that doesn't always appeal to people. But blogging, or more specifically writing for me is a way to relieve myself of stress.
And I don't necessarily blog for my readers/followers, I do it for myself and if someone reads and comments, that's just a bonus.
